I am super thrilled to be showing you a fun little tutorial on how to import your own pocket cards into Project Life® App using dropbox!
Juliette did this tutorial post a while back writing a similar tutorial about how to add pocket cards via iTunes.
That works super, but why not use an online storage device (such as Dropbox which is free!). You can easily add your pocket cards or photos locally on your computer, and have a reliable backup in Dropbox at the same time!
Sweet deal I think!
So, after you sign up for your free Dropbox account, they are pretty good and showing you how the process works when you sign up. If you already have an account, you probably already know. That’s why I am going to skip that part.
Edit: Let’s talk about downloading zip files to your iphone or ipad. I personally don’t download zip files to my iphone, I just don’t have the space but if you do. There are tools in the app store (or google play) such as iZip and WinZip so you may download any journal card products directly from shops. I like to do it the long way:) I download to my computer and drag the cards into my desktop dropbox folders so they will be available for me to download when I need them in my dropbox app on my phone. To save space, I delete them locally on my phone with I am finished with my page 🙂
Let’s assume, you have uploaded up your pocket cards to dropbox (and I recommend organizing them nicely, however you prefer – by collection name or color or theme) you can go ahead and jump into the App Store and search for the Dropbox app.
After you have installed it – it’s pretty straight forward. You basically open the app and you will see your folders and when you click in them, your files / photos will magically appear 🙂
1. Tap on the card you want to import
2. Tap that funny square with arrow in the top right corner to activate the dialog that will pop up on the bottom. This is where you save the card to your iphone. Tap the Save Image button.
It will then export it to your iphone. YAY.. almost done!
Once you are ready to make your Pocket Page with the Project Life® App, it’s quite simple!
3. With the app open and template selected, when you go to choose your photo or pocket card, you can find them quite easily in your Camera Roll now. Tap that card you want!
See? Look how full and fun this page is that I made in a matter of 1 minute. And it’s not too bland because of the stacked / embellished pocket cards! Maybe the app will go through an upgrade soon so we won’t have to find ways around this! BUT, until then, I think this is a pretty cool solution.
Don’t you think?
There is still the setback of not being able to journal on photos or any imported cards. I am hoping that the app will eventually update to have this ability!
So where do you get stacked and embellished pocket cards? You can either make your own (too much work which defeats the purpose of the convenient, on-the-go Project Life® App) or you can find them ready to purchase from your favorite designer.
I don’t know many out there (yet!) that do create these kind of products, and I suspect a trend is upon us!
You can find the cards I used in this tutorial below
